Raymond van Barneveld has finally risen from the bad phase he has endured for almost a year now. Barney has been making early exits this year because of his precision issues.
The German Darts Championship saw a new face of Barney as he gave a wonderful showdown of darts magic, reminding the fans of how good he can be if focused.
It started off when McCoy’s Premier League saw the 45-year-old falling apart with his poor form. It was not the man who once hit numerous 9-darters in a single tournament.
The UK Open was another tournament where Barney could not perform in a magical way. He disappeared in the dark with his bad play and was over shadowed by the newcomers.
One man that stood out in the UK Open was Robert Thornton. His victory in the finale against Phil “The Power” Taylor was easily the best performance of his entire career and winning against the power of darts is an achievement in itself.
The Players Championship hits June 30, where names like Barney and Adrian Lewis will try and make up for all that has been done in the past one year.
Australian Wizard Simon Whitlock has been on the rise with his Premier League finale performance and his form in the UK Open. However, “The Wizard” remains ‘title-less’, which is indeed a shame for a player of his stature.
Taylor is a completely different story altogether. “The Power” over powered the rest of the lot in the Premier League and took home the trophy. He lost the UK Open but came back with a bang by winning the German Darts Championship.
Taylor has been the top dog in the world of darts and he is undoubtedly, the greatest darts player that has ever lived.
Barney has seen the best of his career and this year has not been promising. His focus has not been there as his performance at major tournaments depicts the reality.
The Players Championship will define how well Barney has learnt from the past and how will his future treat him as a darts magician.
