Rayo Vallecano striker Raul Tamudo “finds it strange” to play against Espanyol – La Liga News

Tamudo spent 18 years of his life with Los Periquitos before moving on to new pastures. After a one year spell with Real Sociedad, the talismanic striker now heads Rayo’s attack.
The thirty-three-year-old front man played stated that playing against Espanyol is no like any other match for him as he reserves special feelings for his former club.
He said that he still feels strange playing against the team he has lined-up for what looks like eternity.
“For me, playing against Espanyol is not just another game. Last year I faced them whilst with Real Sociedad, I find it strange after spending a lifetime there,” Tamudo said.
He accepted that these instances are part of his life now and the ambition to take all the points is on his mind.
“Football has these instances, but the truth is I never thought I would have to face Espanyol. The important thing is to win now,” the Espanyol legend added.
Tamudo is held in high regard at Estadi Cornellà-El Prat, where he is the all-time leading goals scorer with 129 strikes.
The Los Blanquiblaus youth academy product said that he reveres his history with the club but will put it to one side when the match whistle is blown.
“[Facing Espanyol] is no extra motivation to win because you always have to win against whoever you play on the field. After two years since leaving Espanyol, after so long, I just think about my team, to play and to score goals.”
The Santa Coloma born player stated that he will not celebrate if he scores a goal against his old side.
Rayo and Espanyol lied side by side to one another in the league table. Both clubs have 6 points to show for from 6 matches, with the hosts enjoying a higher positioning due to a better goal difference.
