Rayvin Giovanni dances his way to success in Wimbledon Puppy Derby
Rayvin Giovanni turned the Williamhill.com Puppy Derby Final into a procession with a hugely convincing victory to land trainer Seamus Cahill with the £6000 prize. The favourite bolted out of the traps to lead up at the first bend and stride home in front of Romeo Spartan in a rapid time of 28.34secs. Giovanni, who got the better of his well fancied kennelmate Droopys Oscar in the semi finals, has now been installed as one of the market leaders for next year’s Derby, and heads up a strong contingent of puppies at the disposal of trainer Cahill.
Jimmy Lolly got the night off to a scintillating start with yet another faultless performance in the Williamhill.com Poker Sprint. Breaking with his trademark sharpness, he had the field beat in the first three strides to record his seventh straight victory and continue his dominance of the sprinting scene. Robbie Rocks ran an impressive race in second from trap three and looks one to follow in the coming weeks.
Grand National champion, Plane Daddy, bounced back to form in the mobile.williamhill.com new mobile app Hurdles with a classy staying performance. After being squashed at the first bend, the Chris Sliney owned dog battled back down the back straight, cruised past the early leader Men of Hope and pulled clear with a stunning jump at the final hurdle to finish three quarters of length ahead of the fast finishing Lenson Flash.
Favourite backers were in the money in the Williamhill.com Bingo Stayers race as Corrig Vieri continued the great form of trainer Mark Wallis with a front running win that pushed him to the fore of the St Leger market. Breaking impressively from trap two, the Yarmouth based hound always held eventual second He Went Woosh, who many thought was coming to gobble up the winner turning for home.
Wallis completed a quick-fire double fifteen minutes later as Derby finalist Adageo romped home in the mobile.williamhill.com bet on the move stakes. The champion trainer had doubts regarding the dog’s chances beforehand because of his exploits in last week’s defeat against Raving Black, but any signs of tiredness were quashed at the first bend as he exploded past the field and took total control of the race. Jackdaw Summer briefly threatened at the final bend but Adageo ran all the way to the line to secure the victory by two lengths.
The closest finish of the night came in the Williamhill.com Roulette stakes as Lenson Maymay got up on the line to deny the fast starting Rising Ruby by a short head. The two wide runners got out sharply from the traps and pulled well clear of the field by half-way. It looked as though Ruby had done enough coming off the final bend to see off the challenge from the six dog, but the black jacket found just enough on the line to leave trainer Andy Collett jumping for joy in the stands.
