Rayvin Giovanni highlights Puppy cup semi-finals
Romford will host the three semi-finals of the Romford Puppy Cup Friday night, with puppy sensation Rayvin Giovanni racing in the third semi. The top two hounds from each race will qualify for the final.
Romford Puppy Cup - 1st Semi Final
In the first round of the Puppy Cup, Devastator, who will run from the first trap, got off to a horrendous start, but moved up the pack to finish in second behind Daughter of Peg.
Ballymac Denis drew the second trap, and looked steady finishing in second behind Bright Redcliff in the first round.
The third trap will feature Little Urge, who won her heat and has finished no worse than second in her last five races.
Final Gold will go from the fourth trap. She lost to Urge last week, and is unlikely to fare better tomorrow.
Droopys Doctor, who drew the fifth trap, lost second place to Devastator in the final stretch on Monday, and will be looking for revenge.
Another first round heat winner, Cotswold Hegarty, will go from the sixth trap. Hegarty looked good after recovering from a slow start last week.
Little Urge is sure to advance to the final. After that it could be anyone in this group.
Romford Puppy Cup - 2nd Semi Final
Ballymac Celia drew the first trap in the second semi-final. She looked great in the first round taking the lead early and finishing strong. She’s expected to appear in the final.
Oscars Blurr, who will race from the second trap, took second in the first round last Monday behind Hegarty as a 14-1 longshot. Don’t expect a repeat performance.
Daughter of Peg will start from the third trap. She looked as good as Celia in her first round heat, and should finish in the top two of this race as well.
In the fourth trap is Butterbridge Jen who finished only a ½ length behind Celia. She’ll be looking for better results tomorrow, but she’ll be hard-pressed to win.
Astro Boy squeaked into the semi-finals with a third place finish in the first round, and will be lucky to finish that high again. He drew the fifth trap.
In the sixth trap is Archers Eagle, who lost by 13 ½ lengths to Rayvin Giovannu on Monday. He won’t lose by as much tomorrow, but he’ll still lose.
Pick the favourites in this one: Ballymac Celia and Daughter of Peg.
Romford Puppy Cup – 3rd Semi Final
Flopsy Bunnytail drew the first trap in the final semi. She finished in third on Monday, and will probably not improve upon that.
In the second trap is Ballymac Louise, who started off well last week, but was blown away by Giovanni by the end. Some luck could have her squeeze into the final.
Strattons Brett will run from the third trap. It’s very unlikely he’ll be able to finish anywhere near the top two after finishing in third last week, 5 ¼ lengths behind second.
Bright Redcliff should take second in this race after winning on Monday. He’ll be racing from the fourth trap.
Giovanni drew the fifth trap, but it doesn’t matter what trap he races from as only a stumble or a fall will stop him from taking first.
The sixth trap will house Droopys Tajmahal, who after a very weak start on Monday was barely able to qualify for this race.
The question in this race is who will finish in second behind Giovanni. Redcliff is probably the best choice, but Ballymac Louise could have something to say about that.
