Rayvin Giovanni makes it through to Romford Puppy Cup final
The Romford Puppy Cup (400m) has its finalist after a series of semi-final heats which took place on Friday night and saw the shock defeat of 2-5 favourite Rayvin Giovanni.
Giovanni who ran in the third semi (21:20) was denied of a fifth consecutive win after failing to keep up with the pace of trap four starter Bright Redcliffe.
Redcliffe (4-1) was very quick away and won the race pretty much after pinging to perfection and clocking a time of 23.79sec for trainer John McGoldrick.
Seamus Cahill-trained Giovanni may have missed the kick but did well to recover in the race and was able to secure his place into next Friday’s £8,000 final.
Malcolm Daniels’s Final Gold (4-1) took the opener in similar fashion after delivering great early pace from trap four once again to beat the favourite Little Urge by a length and a quarter, clocking 24.19sec.
Daughter Of Peg (6-4 favourite) was the only selection the naps got spot on after Chris Allsopp’s charge made all in the second semi with great early pace to the first bend to beat Butterbridge Jen by almost four lengths, clocking a time of 24.17sec.
Giovanni will definitely be the one to follow in next Friday’s final even after yesterday’s upset, having already bagged the £6,000 Wimbledon Puppy Derby, £3,000 Sunderland Derby Plate and most recently over course and distance, the £1,000 Romford Puppy Cup. With only three losses out of nine (those being runner-up) it’s hard to bet against Cahill’s charge, and my advice would to take the early price.
Draw for next Friday’s£8,000 final: T1 Daughter Of Peg, T2 Little Urge, T3 Bright Redcliffe, T4 Final Gold, T5 Rayvin Giovanni (m), T6 Butterbridge Jen (m).
