Razif Sidek proposal attracts little interest from Badminton Association of Malaysia
Former Malaysia coach for doubles category, Razif Sidek’s proposal to reform the training and coaching system in order to groom men’s and women’s doubles shuttlers has fallen on deaf ears of the Badminton Association of Malaysia.
The General Manager of BAM, Mr. Kenny Goh said that the governing body is not having any discussions at the moment to give Razif any designation in the association.
“But if he (Razif) is interested to return and help, we are open to all suggestions,” he said.
“Ultimately, the executive committee will decide on whether they require Razif’s assistance or not because in the end it will be for the best interest of the game and the nation,” added Goh.
Razif along with his brother Jalani Sidek served his country as players by winning many major titles the at international level including the All England Open Badminton Championship in the category of men’s doubles. He is also the brother of Misbun Sidek,
who is the coach of men’s singles national squad.
In 1994, Razif was appointed as the coach of Malaysia’s national squad for doubles category. For three years, he served the country with dedication and commitment. He wanted to work as a Deputy to James Selvaraj, who is the High Performance Director of BAM.
His proposed task was to evaluate the performance of doubles’ shuttlers and to improve their skills in all aspects of the game.
The growth of badminton in Malaysia is quite slow as compared to the other top badminton countries including China, Denmark, Korea and Indonesia. Knowing this, Razif offered his services on voluntary basis to eliminate the errors in the training and coaching
setup of Malaysia.
The next meeting of BAM is going to be held on 28 April, 2011. The training plan for the World Championships and London Olympics 2012 will be discussed in this meeting.
It is possible that BAM discusses Razif’s proposal in the meeting but his joining is completely out of question. The role of Misbun Sidek for the men’s singles will also be declared in the meeting.
