Razvan Lucescu steps down as national coach of Romania – International football news
Razvan Lucescu has stepped down as the national team coach of Romania effective Saturday, June 4. Lucescu’s resignation has taken many by surprise, especially after he helped Romania to a cruising 3-0 over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bosnia-and-Herzegovina-c2856 only few hours earlier.
Quite understandably, people have been left baffled be the decision as the win over Bosnia and Herzegovina not only help http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romania-c2990 secure three important points, but also revived their UEFA Euro 2012 qualification hopes.
Romania have now moved up to the third spot in the European Championship Group D table with eight points. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899, with 13 points, are the frontrunners on the table having won four of their six games.
Lucescu, who was inching closer to an important milestone during his short coaching stint with Romania, opted to resign less than 24 hours after the most recent victory. Had the coached remained in charge until Monday, he would have completed one year in
charge of the national outfit.
Reports indicate that the 42-year-old held an important meeting with Mircea Sandu, the Romanian Football Federation president, earlier and informed him of his plans to step down from the managerial seat.
While talking to the media, Mircea Sandu wished Lucescu best of luck for his future endeavors.
“I wish him success wherever he works next and I hope the next coach and his staff will continue to get the same results as the one Lucescu managed last night.” Sandu said.
After helping Rapid Bucuresti won two Romanian Cups, Lucescu was appointed as the national coach of Romania in 2009 following the departure of Victor Piturca. Piturca’s contract was terminated with Romania after he failed to help them qualify for the 2010
FIFA World Cup.
Following his appointment, Lucescu helped the Tricolours register seven victories, seven defeats and seven draws from the 21 fixtures he managed the team in. Romania will now be desperately looking for a successor to Lucescu, as they are set to lock horns
with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luxembourg-c2945 and France in September this year.
