Question:

Rc car motor upgrade?

I have three Radio Shack cars that I'd like to upgrade the motors on. What I found out was this much:

The motor in one of the cars (assuming all the cars have the same motor since they're the same style and size) have a Mabuchi RS-540-SD in them. I don't know what those numbers mean, I think 540 is the size of the case for the motor but anyways, I want to upgrade them to something faster.

These are the specs from the Mabuchi RS540:

Voltage Range: 12.0V

Normal Voltage: 7.20V

Normal Load: 19.6mN.m (200g.cm)

Speed at No Load: 15,800 RPM

At normal load speed: 14,000 RPM

At normal load current 6.0A

Shaft Diameter: 3.00mm

I want everything like that but a higher rpm obviously. It's two wire connected and I don't know anything about electric or gas cars so I want to avoid using an ESC. I wanted to use a brushless motor but some dude on ebay said I need an ESC, which I have no clue how I'd put that into my Radio Shack car. I mean it's already digital proportioned so...

Aside from that, what motors can I use to replace this type? Just a simple two wired motor with a high rpm. The battery I'll be using is a 6 cell 7.2v nimh. Help out if you know anything about rc cars.

  1. Try going with a triple 10T Brushless motor. Insane amount of power with a good ESC. Hope this help.
