Is there any way I can hook my Tvs RCA output to my stereos AUX Input?

If I buy a RCA to Headphone cable will it work from my tv to my aux input on my stereo?Or does it only work from Rca to headphone?

My main question is will it work backwards?

  1. You shouldn't need the RCA to "headphone" cable.

First, if the RCA jack(s) are low level audio out (probably) you can connect to an RCA input on an amplifier ... that's what they are there for.

If you have one RCA jack (mono) on the TV you can bridge it to a stereo amplifier using a Y-adapter (See 1st link for example) to split the signal to the two RCA inputs on the amp. If there is a stereo output (usually red/white RCA jacks) you can wire in stereo using a simple dual RCA-to-RCA patch cord (See 2nd link for example).

    Cheers.

  2. Adaptors like the one you describe work in both directions, so yes, the signal path is fine. The question, though, is what kind of signal is coming out of your tv in terms of quality. Newer TVs will be fine, older ones might be mono or just sound like c**p.
