i have an rca xl100 stereo tv that was made in 1992. it has no audio outputs. i think, over the years that the speakers have worn out, because, when you try to turn up the volume, the sound just becomes very distorted to the point that you can not understand it. my question is,rather than replace the speakers with new ones,i was wondering if it would be possible to install audio outputs so that i could connect it to an external amplifier or av receiver to enjoy the benefits of better sound quality.

  1. No way, I'm thinkin'. don't forget, when HDTV gets in, that won't work at all!

  2. RCA did have problems with one model where the volume was very distorted. Can't remember what the chassis number was but if you removed the silver can from around the brown tuning coil it would clear it up. It may have been an earlier model, but if you are experienced in tv repairs , you can have a look at this.

If you are using a sat.receiver or cable box, then you can take the audio output from that & feed it into you stereos "AUX" input.

    Good Luck!

  3. You can use the coaxial cable to connect to a Hi-Fi stereo VCR - To - TV and use the audio outputs from the VCR to connect to an AV reciever & speakers. This will, basically, Jerry-Rig your system to get better sound quality.

But I highly recommend that you upgrade to a new TV within the next 6 months or so. Visit your local audio/video store... or Walmart, lol - to see that there are several inexpensive HDTV's available nowadays.

When digtal TV comes into play in 2009 - there'll be converter boxes available so that your TV will be able to view the signal (because your TV will not be able to tune into the digital signal without the converter box). Click here for more info on this subject:  https://www.dtv2009.gov/
