  1. A hurricane is a tropical cyclone. There are many different types of cyclones such as tornadoes and high and low pressure systems are cyclones. The major differecne between hurricanes and tropical cyclones is that hurricanes from over the Atlantic and East Pacific oceans and cyclones form over the Indian and South Pacific Oceans.

  2. hurricanes form over the oceans north and south of the equator. hurricanes develop from disturbances in the equatorial belt. they have warm eye or core, where the air pressure is extremely low. above the eye is a region of high air pressure, from which air descends. they are called hurricanes in the southern Pacific and northern Atlantic, typhoons in the western Pacific, and cyclones in the Indian Ocean.

  3. A cyclone can be any counterclockwise rotating storm in the northern hemisphere and a hurricane falls into that category.

Not all cyclcones are hurricanes.  They can an area of low pressure or even a tornado or thunderstorm.

  4. they're the same thing

  5. If a storm was to form in the Atlantic or eastern Pacific Ocean, we would call it a hurricane. So basically every storm that endangers the United States is a hurricane. In recent years, we have all become quit familiar with hurricanes and their powerful force.

A typhoon is generally any storm that begins in the Western Pacific. So a storm that threatens Japan or the islands of Guam or the Philippines is called a typhoon. Winds from a typhoon usually are stronger than a hurricane, however they endanger far less land area due to their locations.

  6. Both are tropical revolving storms only.Cyclones form over Indian Ocean whereas hurricanes from over Atlantic and east Pacific oceans. If the wind speeds reaches 34 knots, then the storm is declared as cyclone whereas a wind speed of 64 knots is required to declare the storm as hurricane.

  7. No real differences.  Just depends on the spot of origin.

Hurricanes - Atlantic / Eastern Pacific

    Typhoons - Western Pacific

    Cyclones - Indian Ocean
