Thank you everyone for your help earlier, and about my random debt collector which may be a scam. They didn't address any name, just told me to call their main office, and didn't say any loan amount due. It was also an automated message. Please reply =D

  1. It is a scam. They are in fact a credit counseling service that is phishing for people that 1) are in debt, and 2) are worried about paying off the debt. Once they get a return call, they will try and enroll you in a debt counselling service.

Ignore the call. If you are on a Do Not Call list in your state, report this to the Attorney General's office. They can be fined up to $1000 per call they made into the state.

  2. I've gone through the similiar thing -- still a little bit painful, here is the resource help me out.http://debt-relief.expertips4u.info/debt...

  3. Ignore the call. Unless you speak to a live person who knows details about the loan or credit card. There are a lot of scammers out there. Even when speaking to someone on the phone be very careful. Good Luck.

  4. They're required to identify their organization if they're the loan holder.  If you're seriously past due on something and the loan holder has send you to a collection agency, then the agency is required to identify the original loan company if you ask them.

It is possible that you got a semi-anonymous message if it was a voice mail.  They often don't self-identify when leaving a message, and claim it's for privacy reasons.

Check the phone number's area code, make sure it's in the continental United States or Alaska or Hawaii (if not, it's a scam).  Return the call.  If it's a legitimate collection effort, pay the bill.  If it's a solicitation of any kind, file a report at www.ftc.gov, because you aren't allowed to represent yourself as a debt collector when trying to sell something.

Also make sure your phone numbers are listed on the national do not call registry.  Debt collectors can still call you if it is, but solicitations (for profit companies) cannot.
