  1. Dublin 2  City Centre South Side or 4 South Side a little bit out from the centre but Dublin is so small you won't notice. 1 is North Side. Its okay but not all parts. The numbers are the postcodes for Dublin.

http://www.milford.co.uk/ireland/places/... this shows you where  which area the numbers relate to.

  2. I live in Dublin 4, and am not a rich *******, I can tell you. Ally (sp?) is either extremely uneducated and prejudiced, or has never been to Dublin before. As already said, the northside numbers are odd, and the southside numbers are even, and the lower the number, the nearer the city centre it is. Have fun!

  3. Google Irish Tourist board. Hopefully that helps. I highly recommend the  Dublin City bus tour and stop at the Guinness factory for a pint of the best.

  4. Unven numbers are Northside postcodes. Even are Southside.

Also the smaller the number the nearer the city centre!

    Enjoy Dublin!!

  5. the other answerers pretty much summed it up. stick to Dublin 2 ffor the city centre.

btw, don't listen to Ally. Both sides have so much to offer! Also, the irony of her answer...don't go to D4 because they look down on you and then she does exactly that to the Northside. You can't paint everyone with one brush luv' !!!!

  6. Well steer clear of Dublin 4, unless you like rich b*stards who look down their nose at everyone!

Dublin's a big place, and these codes just help narrow it down a little.

For a tourist, I'd recommend Dublin town, which is Dublin 1 and 2: just stay on the southside. The northside is VERY rough.

  7. Hi there.

You want the lowest numbers, they are in the centre.

Luckily Dublin is a small city, easy to walk around, so once you are there you needn't worry about public transport.

Enjoy, it is a beautiful place. Expensive, though, so be sure to shop around. be sure no to miss Temple Bar and the cathedral.

    Good luck, Steve.

  8. yup everyone is right on the postcode thing, if you are a tourist then you should stay in the city centre, aly is very judgemental, don't know where she is from she is warning you away from the north and south of dublin! the north of the city has some beautiful places like Howth out by the sea is easy to get to on the dart. Have fun!!

  9. Dublin 1 is city centre. The rest are different suburbs away from there. Dublin 4 would be the most elite part where all the yuppies are.

You would probably be best to stay central as we have an excellent public transport system in the city centre including the luas (tram) believe it or not.

Also I am from the northside. It's not that rough Aly must be a southsider. The real Dublin people are northsiders, not pretentious, just hardworking, fun loving people without the false americanised  accent and look down your nose at others attitude.

  10. Dublin 1 and Dublin 2 are the city. Other codes skim the edges of the city for example Dublin 8. The higher codes are miles from the city.

Dublin 1 is the northside of the city (north of the River Life) and the main shopping streets are  O'Connell's street and Henry street. The flag-ship store being Clerys.

Dublin 2 is the southside of the city and the main shopping street is Grafton street. The flag-ship store being Brown Thomas. Things to see include Trinity College, where the book of Kells is kept and Temple Bar (a really lively and fun place with great bars)

Dublin 8 also on the southside and includes, "Dublinia and the Medieval Viking World", a wonderful exhibitions on the history of Dublin, located at St. Michael's Hill, Christchurch.

And the Guinness Storehouse, St. James' Gate. At the end of the tour you get a free pink of Guinness in this really cool bar with views of the city.

Last but not least I recommend taking a visit to Croke Park Stadium in Dublin 3. Croke Park is home to Irelands sports and offers a great tour of the grounds and history of our sports.

For a place to stay I'd reccommend Harcourt Street in Dublin 2, its very close to Grafton Street and you can easily reach Dublin 1/Dublin 3 by walking or taking the bus.
