Re-Posted Question - Have you worn your wedding dress again?

I asked this before but Yahoo was having issues and I only got 2 answers!

I would really like to know if you ladies have ever had a chance to wear your wedding dresses again? I would love to wear mine again but can't bear to cut the train off - however I would never get a chance to wear it anywhere with the train attached!

If you have worn your dress again could you explain (or show me) what it looked like and where you got to wear it?

I heard a story when I was trying on bridal dresses of a woman whose husband made her wear her wedding dress on every anniversary - he would take her out to dinner while they were both formally dressed up. She said it kept her in shape and was great for re-using the dress!

I would love to do that but my dress might just stand out a little... http://www.flickr.com/photos/25906286@N04/2433391426/

  1. Mine was a big, traditional wedding gown, cathedral train, long sleeves, all embellished - so, no opportunity to wear it - or alter it. I do regret not having made our son his christening outfit out of it though - only heard of doing that much later. Also, I regret not having given it away not long after the wedding, to someone who could have used it - now it's 'dated' and not in perfect shape, obviously. I have been doing a LOT of thinking of what to do with it - something to make - rather than just being buried in it!

I've read here on Answers of one or more women who wear the gown every year on their anniversary for dinner at home - I think that's VERY COOL!

Your dress is a very simple style, and could easily be altered and dyed, if you wanted to.

  2. it is a gorgeous dress. and yes the train would be a bit much to wear out.  It would OBVIOUSLY be a wedding dress.

If you really want to wear it again and don't have any quams about altering it, have you considered possibly getting it dipped in colour? Being white, even with the train taken off it would still look very much like a wedding gown.  Although personally, I would not be able to change mine at all.

    Good luck

  3. I personally find it a terrible waste to buy an expensive, fancy dress that's only ever going to be worn once.  That's why if I ever get married, I want to find a dress that's simple, elegant and even a bit s**y that I could wear again, if with alterations.

  4. i got married 3 years ago and, nope, never wore it again.  i've tried it on a couple times at home but never worn it out in public anywhere.

  5. I don't think I can wear it on any occasions, my wedding dress is too formal. But I would love to wear it for my 15th wedding anniversary

  6. Any formal wedding gown is going to stand out if you wear it just out to dinner. It's a nice idea to wear it for every anniversary as long as you're confident enough to pull it off. Could you put a bustle hook on the back so your train won't drag? That way you don't have to cut it off.

  7. i think i will wear it ,

  8. I don't think that i would wear mine again....

  9. Your dress is so gorgeous - please don't cut the train off or dye it!

  10. My friend wore hers the next day and had the photographer take pictures of her and her husband jumping off a bridge into the water. Pretty cool!

  11. Ha ha!  I didn't wear mine for 9 years, and then after having two kids, I tried to put it on and suprised my husband and kids.  It didn't even zip all the way up the back!!!  It was hilarious for the whole family and the kids called me a "princess" (2 boys, aged 3 and 5).  I actually was proud enough to give it to my husband's cousin who fit into it perfectly and LOVED the dress.

I enjoyed reading about the woman who wore it every year on her anniversary.  That's great motivation to stay in shape.
