Re: Tips for first time travellers to Paris?

A few weeks ago, I posted this question. I received lots of replies( thank you!). Unfortunately, it is now tied in voting so I don't know who responded( it just has Answerer 1, etc no names). Could the people who responded please indicate who you are ( just copy the first few lines of your answer) because I need to check something.

I have been 2 times. I stayed in St. Germain district and it is very convenient to alot of things. It is near to the L'Odeon Metro and the hotel I stayed has a shuttle from airport to hotel (which is easier to navigate when first arriving rather than trying to figure everything out and juggle luggage and get past jet lag!

I just found this site with wonderful eateries, including the famous Angelina's for their hot chocolate and pastries.

and wherever you stay, pick up a copy of 'Where" magazine in the hotel lobby!!! It will tell you EVERYTHING from restaurants, sightseeing, musueums, etc etc.

/dont wear tennis shoes, try to say basic phrases in french, and most importantly, BE POLITE.

Take your camera and and carry U.S. Dollars/Euros. Don't always count on credit to work.

That one had the best restaurants listed.

Some of the others mentioned seeing the Champs-Élysées, which I suppose is worth seeing, but don't waste a lot of time there.  It's pretty touristy and expensive, and is all oriented around shopping.

The Latin Quarter in general is great to stay in, eat in and hang around in (the Luxembourg Gardens are great).

I never had a problem with credit cards/atms (as one of the other answerers here suggested).

Personally I avoid asking people to speak English, and instead I simply say "bonjour" as I enter an establishment, and they will be able to tell immediately from your accent that you are not French, and they will answer you in English.  Anytime you can throw in a few phrases in French it will be much appreciated, and contrary to urban myth, I have always found the French to be quite friendly.
