Re-asked question due to some misunderstanding. Can I wear my belly bar though Gatwick as I go though scanner?

The question I asked before was is it ok to wear a plastic belly bar tough the Airport as I heard all jewlerry includeing belly bars/rings must be taken out at check in.

I know its the metal ones that need to be taken out but wasn't sure if I could keep the plastic one in but I guess I could.

Some people thought I was dumb before when I put 'will i have to take my plastic bar out though the metal decector' because it sounded like i asked if it was metal...NO I do know its not but as it was still a piercing I wasn't sure!

Any ideas?

  1. They don't ask you to take anything off (with the exception of shoes sometimes). I went through just a few weeks ago with jewellery, a watch, an underwired bra, a belt etc on and it didn't go off.  I think it depends on how high they have the sensitivity set.  If the detector goes off you can always take your metal stuff off and walk back through, no big deal.

  2. No you'll be fine even wearing the metal one, I have quite a few piercings and have never had to take them to go through any airport security.

  3. Yes you can wear it through the scanner. In the rare event that it will set the alarms off (it wont as its the wrong type of metal), just lift up your top and show them.

I have never been asked to remove my piercings

  4. The detector detects metal, not plastic.

However, just to be safe you might want to remove it.  At the very least inform the security agent before you go through the arch.
