Question:

Re-assembling a Pool Table?

I recently was given a pool table from my buddy. We dismantled it and everything, it has the 3 slate top, now a week later we are wondering how to put it back together. We know where all the pieces go, but we assume there is more to it than just that. I have heard one is supposed to wax the slate seams together? what about filling the holes in the slate for the s***w holes, same deal? Also, putting the felt back on it...is that stuff washer and dryer safe?, there is lots of dust on it from years of sitting in the basement and it needs cleaned. Any tips or pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  2. If you are halfway mechanical you can do it yourself with great results.  It seems to be taboo to tell someone how to do it themselves these days, but can you really afford $200-$400 to hire a pro?  With that said: Hire a pro if you are planning on doing some BCA tournament play.

I just put together a 3 piece slate pool table last week and refelted it this past monday.  I found the best resourse for this project was www.refelting.com.  I did everything this guy mentioned except the way he felted his table.  My local billiard supply had better instructions.  It came out awesome and is as close to perfectly level as I can get.  My tip:  Level the frame step, level after putting the slate on, then use a ball to see if it is rolling anywhere, then seal and level again.  Put the felt on and guess what...level again.  Good luck.
