Re-coding a DVD player?

I heard that some DVD players can have a code input to re-format them from a Region 1 player to a region 2. I have a region one DVD player and I'd like to buy a UK (PAL) DVD and use it on my region 1 player. Is it true a code input would allow for this? If so, where do I find such a code/instructions?

Depending on the unit, some are able to be set for region 0 (which means no region coding ) just by pushing buttons on your remote.  This would allow any region coded DVD to be accepted by the player.  The cheaper units seem to be easiest to reset like that.  However, I am curious about your region one player.  I was under the assumption that region one players only output in NTSC and not PAL.  Does yours output PAL?
