Question:

Re-coloring wet suit?

I have a wet suit with some green and pinkish colors on it. I just want a all black wet suit but i have no money to buy a new one. Is there any way i can just re-color the green and pink parts? The main color is black but the sections i wanna color are the arms and a strip down the sides into the legs. I was thinking of just straight up spray painting it. Would this work? if not what other ways could i change the color.

  1. Paint is a bad idea.  Any alcohol or petroleum base paint will make the neoprene go stiff, possibly leading to cracking and ruining the suit.  Then you'll have to buy a new one, anyway!  Latex base paint might work, but it too will likely crack and peel off with only slight use.

I had a suit patched several years back, and the patch faded very quickly into an ugly gray color.  I just colored it over with permanent marker pen.  But I think that might cause problems too over a larger area.

I think you're just going to have to live with the colors until you can afford a new suit.
