  1. Definitely remove it, and think about replacing board underneath if it doesn't look sound. It is only OSB board and isn't expensive.

If you don't remove the old felt the new nails will not got through as well and grip well enough, one good storm it will all be gone

  2. Definately remove the old felt, at least then you'll know that the gap between wood and felt is dry and rot free, and probably good for another few years.

  3. It'll take yoou longer to remove the old felt than put the new one on but you really have to bite the bullet and do it. Getting the felt off is not so hard. The time consuming bit is removing the old nails of which there can be 140+ which even if they are galavanised aren't re-usable. For an average 8ftx6ft shed allow 4 hrs for the project. Even a smaller lean-to can take 2.5hrs+. Use mastic to "glue" the felt to the shed roof and use it on dodgy joint bits. An £11 roll of felt + £8  tin of mastic and a £4 bag of 1/2 inch clout nails should be enough to do the job. It's worth paying a bit more for felt cos you can get stuff that falls to bits before you even get it onto the shed roof. Make sure you have a good safe ladder and if you have a willing helper so much the better. Good luck!

  4. Not only should you remove it. You should make sure that the wood below is sound and ensure that there are no sharp protrusions that may pierce the new felt. Carefully scrape off all the old felt and any nails or tacks so that the surface if smooth. Then re-felt the roof.

  5. remove it

otherwise the old one will make it rele bobbly and uneeven and messy with the new one layed on top

take the old one up and re lay it onto the top of your shed

    :)

  6. get a flat shovel and slide it along roof-when you hit a nail pry upwards to pop them out-then the rest use hammer-best to remove old

  7. Remove the old felt, there may be traces of water seepage. Do the job on a sunny day as this will let you dry out any dampness from the wood .

  8. its best to remove the old felt/shingles because of the weight issues. You dont want too much weight on there and it just makes for a better job.
