Re-installing fresh XP on a gateway desktop.?

Hi..I had some virus in my compter so I am trying to clear our my hard drive and install a fresh new copy of XP on my computer.

I tried goig to C drive and clicking the CD drive, but it won't get rid of the old files. I am trying to clear everything out from this computer.

I am trying to make it so it starts from the CD, but I can't find the right "key" to press that will make it boot form the cd....please help!!!

  1. You need to go into your PC's bios. As soon as you start it, there should be a message that says "to enter bios hit____" or something similar.

    At that point you'd hit a key like the Del key or F1, F2, F10, or F12...depending on the computer, each use different keys.

    Once inside the bios you should look for the boot menu tab where you can set the boot order, Set your cd rom first on the list.


  2. when you turn on ur pc, there is something written at the bottom of the screen. Like press F10 to enter setup. Go there and then set the boot preference devices. Set the first boot up device as the CD rom. It will boot from CD then. After u have booted, u will be able to format your drives
