Re-issue of indian passport, police verification needed ?

Anyone who got reissue of a going-to-expire passport, can you tell if a police verification is needed in india? The passport website says it is not needed but my status online says that it is awaiting police verification.

PV can be waived if same address and valid passport. If change of address, major changes, passport expired etc. PV is necessary. You can apply under Tatkal.

Yes it is needed..the police will visit the address stated by you and you have to be present when they visit, and you need to get 2 neighbours to sign up that you have a good character

if you have traveled to other countries? you will be asked for a police records,of the last country's residence.

many countries check for child support and crimes, consulates of India in other countries ask for police records, more than likely? YES .........
