Re. staying in Riviera Maya?

Is there a "downtown" area in R. Maya? We don't want to rent a car and don't want to get stuck eating every meal at the hotel.

I want to know if there are lots of cafes, shops, restaurants in one area. I found out how far Cancun is and we'll take the bus but for local eating purposes.

Thanks

  1. Playa Del Carmen has lots of shopping, restaurants, nightlife etc. You'll want to go to 5th Ave. in Playa del Carmen. You should be able to catch a collectivo from anywhere in the Mayan Riviera to PdC.

You'll likely find that it is closer than Cancun. (and I personally think nicer too)

  2. Riviera Maya refers to a region along the coast of Yucatan Mexico and there are several towns along the coast of 100 + miles

  3. It depends what town you pick.

    Akumal

    Playa Del Carmen

    Puerto Aventuras

    Puerto Morelos

    Tulum

You also have Cozumel which is across the water from Playa Del Carmen (go by ferry)

I would stay in in Playa Del Carmen. Lots of shops, cafes and restaurants. But do some research in all the areas and see what appeals to you.

    Enjoy
