I'm looking into playing the acoustic guitar since i have my mom's old one. but the strings i think are steel and are REALLY old. I heard for beginners, nylon strings are the best and i dont really have any musician friends that can restring them for me, so i was wondering how much it would cost to take it to the music shop and have someone restring the guitar for me. also how much do the strings cost?

  1. You can get strings for $10.00 and above. Steel strings are very hard for a beginner to play so replace them, I'm giving you a site that shows you how to do this, I hope that it helps.

    Good luck. The site is ;

    If you don't have any luck with this, go to google and type in this, how to restring your guitar, they have lots of sites.....or try here, http://www.8notes.com/    on the right side you'll see how to restring your guitar. Bye !!!!!!!!

  2. If the acoustic guitar you have is designed for steel strings then stick with them. Consider a light gauge set of strings at your local music store. Once you purchase them there, most reputable stores will install them free of charge.

    A set of acoustic strings should cost less than $10.

  3. Use a light-gauge steel string to begin with. Nylons suck. They aren't that much, and the store won't charge that much. Ask them to show you how, because if you do any decent amount of playing, you'll be busting strings left & right. Might as well learn to string it yourself.

  4. Steel stings sound better. You can string it , your self. One string at a time. Theres a bead at the end of the string.To let you know. There are directions in the pack. Or for the first time. have the music store worker do it. And watch closely,steel stings outs callouses on your finger tips.so after awhile it doesnt hurt. to jam for hours at a time.

  5. Buy some bronze or nickel strings. The guy at the music store will probably put them on for free if you go to smaller, independent store.

  6. try to find the style of play you want.. if you want fingerstyle go with nylons.. acoustics then go with those strings.. but for me its much better to play with string.. coz you'll get used to its stiffness.. meaning you wont get a hard time playing nylon strings coz they are much easier to play.. besides acoustic strings sounds good..
