Re tacking my carpet after its been lifted up?

My basemen had some water leak threw a window and I had to lift the carpet and replace the pad but now one side of my room the carpet has been lifted away from the tack board how do I go about putting it back?

  1. It will help alot to get a carpet stretcher, Once you get the carpet as close as you can with your hands, Use the carpet stretcher, Its not to hard, but if theres alot your knee might get a little sore. Oh and make sure all your tack board is dry, and secured properly.

    To Andrew below, No offence I'm sure your good at flooring, but I just bought a stretcher for 20.00 dollars at Lowes, and I doubt that anybody would do it for less than that.


  2. The carpet does need to be restretched into the room.  Carpet is not simply laid in a room, it is stretched in.  Sure, you could rent a stretcher, but for what you would spend, it would be simpler to hire a flooring installer.

  3. I agree with above, but the carpet should reach to the tack strip without a stretcher.  Just push it on to the strip and use a puddy knife to tuck the edge under the wall trim.  If the carpet has "shrunk" then yes go rent a carpet stretcher.
