Our 2yr 8mth old son won't be out of nappies for some considerable time yet so am thinking of saving a bit of money by getting reusables. What exactly do I need, wraps, liners, pads, all in ones ???? It's a minefield. Basic advice please.

  1. Have a look on www.usednappies.com. They have details of all different nappies on there for you to get an idea of what they look like and what they involve. And you can buy them fairly cheaply on there as well if you're just looking to try a few different ones. Good luck

I swear by fuzzi bunz and would recommend them to anyone. I know they also do sizes to fit older children, so might be able to accommodate your son's needs.

  2. You can either go for a nappy and a wrap that you put together yourself, or an all in one, those are the basic two types of nappies.

If he is able to help a little bit and pull his pants up by himself, then definately an all in one nappy is the way to go. These can be used on their own, or stuffable ones can be stuffed with extra lining to make them more absorbent, handy for overnight. The link below has some 'training pants' designed for potty training toddlers, but would possibly be suitable for your needs as well, there is even one on there recommended for older children with special needs, the sizes go up to 65lbs.

Have a browse through the site, I have found it most helpful in getting my head around all the jargon of cloth nappies! They tell you the good and bad points of each type of nappy aswell.

  3. Hi,

You may be limited in options due to his age, and thus size, but it is still perfectly do-able.

If you are thinking of using terry squares (the cheapest option) make sure you get good quality ones, as he will need plenty of absorbency. They will need waterproof wraps- these usually go up to sizes 35- 45lbs

Examples are the MotherEase Airflow and Rikki Wraps http://www.fill-your-pants.com/product/1...  http://www.fill-your-pants.com/product/1...

Alternatives would be an All-In-One nappy, which combines the absorbency and waterproofing all in one piece- so basically work just like a disposable but you wash it instead of throwing it away http://www.fill-your-pants.com/product/2... These come in an X-Large which is 35lbs+

Liners are optional- some women like to use flushable liners- others dont bother, its a preference thing. You may want to get some boosters though if he is a heavy wetter http://www.fill-your-pants.com/section/4...

  4. Come on, he will be dry when he is 3, just don´t push him to hard and don´t yell at him if he leak once in a while. Just encourage him when he do the right thing and you´ll see that he will do fine.
