Is energy use just for having the wall a/c on (no thermostatic controls), or does the setting for 'colder' use more energy?

  1. The a/c off uses no energy.

The fan running alone uses some energy.

The fan and the compressor both running uses the most energy.  The colder you want the room, the longer the compressor must run (may never shutoff).

  2. If you have central air conditioning you can cut your annual energy bills by 10 percent by using a programmable thermostat. Turn it up 10 degrees when you're out.

  3. well i am not exactly sure but here is my take on it, the colder the setting the longer the unit is going to run therefore taking more energy.

  4. The colder you make the room the harder and longer the unit has to work and the more energy it consumes.
