Re: the life of your battery is it best to take out the battery out or leave it in when on AC power or when your not using your laptop. or if taken out will you lose your memory or programs

  1. It matters not.

    The batteries are designed to go bad after a few hundred hours. They just want you to buy new ones.


  2. when you're using AC power, keeping the battery in is very good for the battery life. There is no possibility of overcharge because the batteries nowadays are all Lithium Ion. Taking it out will not have any effect whatsoever.

    when not plugged to ac power, removing the battery will cause, on some laptops, the windows clock to display incorrect time at the next startup. (because the clock program/circuit is still running off your battery-on some laptops only. others have a button cell for the clock so removing the computer's battery won't do anything)

    You will not lose any files or programs. Nor will you lose any temp files in the RAM because those are purged at shut down. For long periods or no-use or storage, it is recommended to take the battery out.
