Reaching two consecutive finals is a great achievement for Rawalpindi Rams, says Awais Zia – Pakistan Cricket News
The Left-handed opening batsman of Rawalpindi Rams, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Awais-Zia-c46838, has said that reaching the finals of the Faysal Bank T20 Tournament two times in a row is a great achievement for the young side and he hopes that the side will carry on with the good work in
the future.
The Rams won the Faysal Bank Super Eight T20 Tournament 2011 in Faisalabad under the inspirational leadership of international all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohail-Tanvir-c90665. The young team also reached the final of the recently concluded Faysal Bank T20 Tournament 2011 in
Karachi, where they were beaten by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sialkot-c842 Stallions at the National Stadium.
On both the occasions, Awais played a huge role for the Rams with his aggressive batting at the top of the innings and he gave brilliant starts to his team, more often than not.
Huge crowds were witnessed in both the tournaments and Awais expressed that it was a pleasure to play in front of so many people. He further added that the crowd supported all the teams in the tournament, especially in Karachi.
Awais said, "I really enjoyed the tournament, it was great to play in front of such a vociferous yet sporting crowd and it all went well for us till the final. It was my first Twenty20 tournament in Karachi and it was a great experience and one that I will
always remember."
The left-hander caught the eyes of a number of cricket analysts in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and has forced the selectors to keep a close eye on his performance in the on-going Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2011-12.
Awais is very happy with the performance of his team in the recent past and admitted that it was a huge challenge for Rawalpindi to dismantle Sialkot in the final, which they failed to do.
"To reach back to back Twenty20 finals was a fantastic achievement for Rawalpindi and we had high hopes of winning a consecutive tournament, but unfortunately it wasn't meant to be. Throughout the tournament we gave our all but just felt short at the final
hurdle against a very strong Sialkot side,” the left-hander added.
