Question:

Reactions to Hopkins & Calzaghe?

I just wanted to get responses from the fight last night. I though it was a decent fight... I was surprised by Hopkins natural strength and was handling Calzaghe good early on. Calzaghe looked a bit hestitant because he needed to feel out Hopkins first... Hopkins was fighting very well on the ropes landing short hard punches. Calzaghe later let his hands free and I think Hopkins started to get sluggish and tired by the pressure. The judges picked the clear winner Calzaghe. Did Hopkins give props to Calzaghe? It seemed to me he was playing the sore loser role...Anyway, I'd love to hear reactions.

  1. hopkins talked all that crazy stuff and then went out there and moved backward the whole fight counterpunched the whole fight that is not the the way you should talk if you are going to go out there and fight defensively hopkins disgraced himself by talking all that stuff and then loosing it was almost like he was scared to mix it up with calzaghe.  hopkins was obviously stronger and could knock calzaghe down why not get in there push foward and mix it up maybe because hes 43 maybe because calzaghe's slapping punches were harder than they looked i dont know

  2. well deserved win for joe, he out boxed hopkins from round 2 onwards, hopkins should retire now.so should calzaghe, both abit past it now like, make way for better fighters like that kelly pavlik or taylor. jones vs calzaghe is next, but thats abit of the same as hopkins vs calzaghe, we want to now see a great fight, not a good fight between legends, pavlik vs calzaghe would be amazing.i think pavlik deserves the shot at being undisputed at light heavyweight.roy jones is abit past it now as well, and doesnt really rank very well in ring magazine or hold any belts of his own.

  3. The WHITE GUY beat the black, cheating, I will do anything to wind you up, white guy!

Not pretty, but worth a point in the end!

I thought the headbutting and the pretend "you hit me below the belt" was sooooooooo fecking sad, it is time Hopkins hung up his cheating boxing gloves and good on Joe for not retaliating!

  4. Hopkins was a sore loser. He was also a cheater by faking those low blows when he was tired and Calzaghe was starting to dominate him.

  5. hopkins tried to kill the fight at every opportunity boring in with his head etc.... while calzaghe wanted to box

the split decision was a joke.... hopkins was in no way as good as his opponent

  6. i thought it was a snoozer. like most hopkins, fights constant clinches as he wails with the hand opposite the ref. after @ the 7th he was outta gas.boring

  7. I agree with you, Hopkins fought really well in the beginning but it took a matter of time for calzaghe to get in there and take the victory... i thought it was a good fight...

  8. Regardless of the outcome, which I agreed with after a nervous first 9 - 10 rounds, both dudes deserve credit for not just boxing into their 30's and 40's but doing so whilst at such high levels of credibility and fitness. This wasn't any Hearns vs Leonard II or seniors fight. Both men would are still the best in their division and then take into account the other champion and main draw are both 39...

  9. Hopkins knocked down Calzaghe early and he recovered to claim victory on points.

However Hopkins was shooting his mouth off after the loss.  It showed a lack of respect to Calzaghe.  He looked like a goose.

Retire Hopkins.  You've done your best.  You don't need to prove anything.  You got beaten by a fitter and better Boxer, so you should acknowledge it mate.
