So I'm a public speaking veteran (literally, since I was handed the mike when I was a little more than 5 in nursery. i haven't stopped since then.) and the next thing I know is that I mess up at the extempore. I was given a boring topic: The Role of Citizens in Building a Nation. My plan was to speak of a random impulse to head to the beach and "perch" on a big rock, away from the unreal, and ponder over the way that just like tiny drops make an ocean, citizens make a nation. Then I wud talk about the French philosopher ernst Renan's idea of a nation and the other general stuff. But during the first part, the philosophical, beach part, I just got...bored , and while I was saying "I then realised that..." , I ad-libbed "Oh my god(in a very bored and dull way)". I then looked at the audience and the judges and blanked out. I then apologised and started again a la Brooke White on Idol. But the spark was missing. i mean, a hitch after 10 years of relentless ranting????? I hate it now. everyone was condoling me but I knew the truth: I'm a loser. Do you think I'll ever make it back? the debate is coming up shortly.
