ok i have a 1987 jeep cherokee and my battery reader or whatever is going from having a pretty high output, about 12-13 volts, to almost going dead while im driving!!!! It aso does it when im just setting there idle and i have to put some gas to it. When im driving it does it sometimes and then sometimes it doesnt. I thought it was my sound system but when i turned it off it still did it. I need some help and ideas on what could be the problem.

I have about 2600 watts going through my jeep with a high output alternator putting out about 120 amps and a new 1000 watt battery with new cables and terminals. Im pretty sure all my watts are not being used but til. Also it may be a bad idea but my cd player is hooked up almost directly to my battery but it doesnt stay on though. Better yet its hooked up to my lights. I know its stupid but it worked at a time and now its not. HELP PLEASE!!!!!

  1. like they said check ground.

you alternator has a negative too, i hope you knew. check that one.

when voltage goes lower that means it creates more heat, so seriously try to limit ur electrical usage until u fix this. most autozones etc will do a free electrical test. just do that maybe its ur battery soemhow

  2. um you moght need new spark plugs....ask a pro

  3. Check your grounds and make sure any of the wires aren't touching( neg. and positive to the amp)  Check ya power wire from your amp and make sure it doesnt have a short and is touching the chassis of the car.   Lastly check to make sure your battery teminals are secured and done tightly.  My old probe used to do that and my postive cable wasnt tightly secured to the positive terminal of the battery.when i opened the hood it was appearing to be on but once i moved the car it would.  if you have a HO alternator you should be reading 14.4volts also.  12v is standard engine off.  rev ya engine and see if the voltage raise up.  If not then ya alternator may be bye bye.
