  2. Many community colleges provide reading courses for adults.

    Any multidisciplinary reading program should work. I use the Orton - Gillingham method , but there is not a packaged program for that, one must be trained. In fact one must be trained to teach any reading program. SRA has Corrective Reading that starts with the basics of sounds and moves up. Wilson is a sound program. All of these start with basic sounds, say them, read them, spell them, then build up to bigger words.

    It is true that this sound approach does not work easily for everyone, but it has been my experience that even if you cannot hear the sounds, you can learn the rules behind these sounds which brings you closer to success in reading.
