Real Betis return to La Liga – Spanish La Liga overview
Real Betis return to La Liga after two years in Segunda Division wilderness. The couple of seasons in Spain’s second tier domestic competition have coincided with the toughest times in the history of the club. Good times are on the horizon as they return
to La Liga and will push for a mid-table push in this outing.
Starting from the backroom at Benito Villamarín, the Verdiblancos have had plenty of troubles. In the first year, ownership debacle with Ruiz de Lopera and Bitton Sport was sorted out and the team concentrated on its fight to return to La Liga. The club
are now headed by former player Rafael Gordillo in the capacity of President. A legend at Betis and Real Madrid, the former Spanish international has ushered the club into a new era and would hope to see the club prosper even further.
Betis will be coached by the former marksman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 on his hands in the ever
increasing competition in La Liga.
The squad will be lead by Arturo García Muñoz on to the playing field. The Captain is a graduate of the Real Betis youth system and made his first team debut for the club in the 2000/01 season. Having played in the Champions League with Betis in 2005, Arzu
would love to take his team to the highs of the seasons gone by.
Munoz is a defensive midfielder by profession but has developed into a capable centre-back with Betis tackling backline problems in the 2009/10 season. He has amassed more than 268 appearances for Real Betis, getting on the score sheet 12 times in the process.
Diligence of the Captain will be required in this challenging season as Betis try to establish themselves in La Liga.
In their return to La Liga, the club have improved their attacking line-up. The club boast Ruben Castro, Jonathan Pereira and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/River-Plate-c40368.
The frontline is lead by Castro and Molina with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonathan-c18993 being the likely replacement. After being sent on loan stints for a succession of years, Castro has found his home away from the former club, Deportivo La Coruna. In his maiden years at the club, Castro
scored 27 goals while Molina chipped in with 16 league goals.
The midfield was led by Cameroonian footballer Achille Emana. The midfielder has been prolific for Betis ever since he joined, scoring 38 goals in 84 appearances. He was supported in the midfield by Brazilian Iriney Santos da Silva and Spanish Salva Sevilla,
while Juanma added the much needed depth to the midfield. Cover for captain Arzu is provided by Beñat Etxebarria. The midfield worked brilliantly in the 2010/11 season as it assisted the forwards and provided protection to the defence.
The club’s defence remains the major concern as there is very little cover for positions on the back. Jose Antonio Dorado joined the club last year and has been a revelation at left-back position. Miki Roque is the only recognized central defender. He will
likely be paired with Arzu. On the right, the club have Jose Isidro and Fernando Vega.
Iñaki Goitia Peña is the undisputed shot-stopper. In Costo, he has an able deputy while Fabricio Agosto Ramírez has been purchased to add competition to the spot.
With the loss of Achille Emana and a dwindling number of defenders, the team has received a big jolt. However, the club have an able squad with good reserves in the canters. They should be able to overcome the fight put up by competing La Liga clubs.
