Hello, I would like to know about how much full time real estate agents make in NY their first few months. I hate when people say it is relative so only people that are real estate agents in NY please respond. Just give me what you think will be a ball park figure. (i am sure everyone will think differently but i would like to prepare myself) I am moving in July to take my real estate class and start as an Agent and i would like to know if in 3-4 months will i be making enough to actually afford an apartment in NY alone or will i need to get another part time job.... in other words will i make at least 6-7k starting in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th month of working? I am planning to start in rentals during those months to learn the ropes then I will be combining rentals and sales ... working for buyers.

  1. There is a greater chance to earn income as a rental agent first rather than in sales so your plan is good. Make sure you have enough resources to last you at least 3-6 months as it does vary greatly what you will earn as well as when. Try to work as an agent in an office that will offer you floor duty or walk ins as you start. As far as $$$ goes, it really is relative, but if you are not doing at least 50k take home your first year - this may not be the profession for you.
