  1. My best advice would be to find an appraiser and ask them for help, I myself am an agent.  And my understanding is it can be a tough business to get into, but please don't get discouraged, get in touch with a caring mentor and good luck.  Also, I think alot of it has to do with apprenticeships as well as the classes.

  2. Depends on your personal situation..... I would do both, continue to work towards your bachelors as well as begin the courses necessary to obtain your appraisal license. I took an on-line an on-line / correspondence course, while continuing to work full time (and raise kids, it took me about 6 months to finish the course). Once I obtained my trainee license I began working for a Licensed appraiser. I was lucky enough to begin when the market was just beginning to "boom" (2002) so my trainer was busy enough to supply me with work and training. While times are tough, there are still plenty of appraisers who are taking trainees...I would suggest that you look into some on-line appraiser forums ( I belong to two) lots of good resources out there and often you will find appraisers looking for trainees. I'm not sure what your planning on getting your bachelors in... but real estate finance or business management would be a plus especially if you are looking at making this a career...down the road when upgrading your license and joining an appraisal institute, such as National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers (NAFIA), it will be a plus to have your degree coincide with your appraisal field. (I'm currently working on my bachelors... and working on getting that NAFIA designation) Good luck to you!
