Real Estate Negotiation Question?

I put an offer to purchase a triplex for $170K. Asking price is 189K. The seller came back asking $187K. what is the best way to meet in the middle? put another offer at $175K or $180K? do it asap or wait a week? it's a hot market there, location is Sudbury, Canada but not too many potential buyers for this specific property/location. THANKS.

  1. If he only dropped the price 2K, he may not be willing to meet in the middle - typically an offer that only comes down a little says he is not willing to negoitiate much.  I'd either come back at 175 or so, and just see what they do, or just offer him the middle price (178, or whatever) and tell the agent this is my best offer - take it or leave it.  I'm guessing they will leave it but its worth a shot.

  2. No one here can answer that.

Asking price has nothing to do with a property worth.

Not a deal if you pull the comps and find out it's actually worth $160K, now is it?
