Hi i am going to NY in July and I was thinking of going into real estate sales. I was wondering how hard would it be? Do you think i can start out making at least 4k per month? How much do you think sales people make that have been in this business much longer? I only want to work part time maybe 30 hours a week and do it as a supplemental income to my business that I am starting.

  1. You have to complete 75 hours of training to become an agent in NY starting July 1, 2008. After that you have to pass the state test. Then you must wait for you pass or fail notice about 4 weeks in the mail. Then you have to have a broker sponser you and once you receive your pass notice in the mail, you send it with an application to the state. It takes 6-7 weeks to get your license, if it doesn't get rejected due to any errors. Start up costs are roughly $1000 depending on what company you work for and what board you join. It could be more depending. The money you make is pretty much what you put into it. You have to constantly self-promote. Good luck!!

  2. Real estate is not a part time job.

  3. As someone mentioned above- real estate is not a part time job. if you decide to get into real estate do not represent buyers or renters. represent the sellers or landlords.

FYI- I have been in real estate since 01 and have worked with a few different firms. I NEVER had to pay a start up fee.
