  1. mars used to be hotter than it is today so the ice that covers mars now was water then, this makes it likely that there used to be some kind of life there (possibly now), although it very likly wont be more than a one cell organism if there is.

  2. From a TV series The Universe, during their Mars episode, they showed something about forzen white stuff at Mars polar region

There are plans to land and drill through those frozen stuff and see if there's any liquid water below it.

  3. I want to say that they found a water molecule. Where there is water there is life.

  4. There was a meteorite found that was from Mars.  I don't remember its identification, but there were certain shapes found using an electron microscope that resembled prokaryotes (bacteria).  There was a lot of excitement about having found possible "bacteria fossils."

More recent probes on Mars show very solid evidence that Mars was at one time covered by a vast ocean or large body of water.  Since we strongly associate the presence of water with the possibility of life, because that is how life started here, the presence of water on Mars makes it possible for life to have started there also.

The latest Martian Rover, Phoenix is looking for more conclusive evidence and there are more missions planned in the North Polar Region.

No actual proof has been found yet, but there have been several discoveries that do suggest the possibility that life may have once existed on Mars.  Possibility and Actuality are two different things.  If life can be proven to have existed on Mars at some point in the past, then the likely hood of life existing elsewhere in the universe would be very certain.

  5. didn't they find "white stuff" that was salt and could have been from and ancient martin sea and if there was water there could have been life

  6. They found ice at the poles. Where there's ice, there's bound to be water. Sweet, glorious, life giving water!
