Real Madrid Is Getting Weaker
With the rising power of Barcelona, Real Madrid has no option but to get even stronger, if they want to challenge the authority of the Catalan Giants.
For this purpose, Real Madrid has taken some positive steps as they signed some big players, last year. This year, the squad was further strengthened with the signing of Jose Mourinho, as head coach, and Angel di Maria. However, Barcelona did not stop building their squad, as they signed David Villa, from Valencia.
Also, they are trying hard to retain most of their players, including Ibrahimovic. They did have to let go of Thierry Henry, but, this is not a loss to the Catalans, as they have Pedro replacing Henry and Alexander Hleb is back from his loan deal. The only player that has not been replaced is Yaya Toure, who left the Camp Nou, because he did not get a lot of playing time, during the last season.
On the other hand, Real Madrid barely had the squad and they are barely managing it properly. Although, they did build their team a little, this year, but their losses are going to be huge. Defensively, they are already short of a legendary player, Fabio Cannavaro, while other players are thinking about leaving the club, as they are not hopeful about their future in the current Madrid squad.
Although, Cannavaro was well past his best days when Madrid’s management let him leave the club, yet he was a good substitute for crucial times. Also, the new style of coaching would be focusing on defence, in which case Cannavaro would be missed in Bernabeu.
Recently, the Club has decided to let go of their legendary striker, Raul. Raul is the all time top scorer for Real Madrid, as he has stayed in the club throughout his career. He joined in 1992 and helped his team to many glorious successes. Also, in 2008, he signed a life-time deal with Real Madrid, which was to be renewed if he played at least 30 games for the club.
He did just that in 2009-2010 Season, but he saw his role reduced in the team, as the new brand of players are younger and more agile than the old Spaniard. Therefore, Raul has decided to leave the club, as Schalke is leading the race for signing the player. However, Raul has shown his desire to move to England, where he would like to spend the remaining days of his career.
Raul is not the only Madrid’s legend that is leaving the club this summer. Guti has been linked with Besiktas and has now announced his decision to leave Real Madrid. Like Raul, Guti came to Real Madrid at a very young age and made his debut in 1995. He has played a very instrumental role in the club’s success at home and in Europe. Even, during the last season, he played some good quality football, definitely better than Kaka. However, he is getting old; therefore, Real Madrid has decided to let the player go, as well.
All these losses could prove to be grave for Madrid, but, the biggest would be the loss of the Dutch midfielder, Rafael Van der Vaart. The midfielder, ever since he joined the club, has been struggling to find his place in the team. Right now, he might be a better footballer than some of the big signings of Madrid, but, ever since Perez is back into presidency, he is trying to get rid of all the Dutch players.
Therefore, Perez kicked the likes of Sneijder and Robben out of the team, which proved devastating for the club. Now, Van der Vaart has had enough in Madrid, as he has shown his desire to join the EPL. The player’s quality is doubtless, so the clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool are showing great interest in signing the Dutchman.
As time is running out, Mourinho must be running out of options. There is no doubt that the current squad is not good enough, or even big enough, to pose the challenge in all competitions, in the next season. So, Jose must be very busy in the remaining time, while Madrid would take a little while to settle in the next season.
