Real Madrid Manager Jose Mourinho Talks about the Transfer Targets
There is not enough time left before the start of the La Liga season. Therefore, the clubs are making last-ditch efforts to complete their squads before the transfer market closes. The big team in Spain, right now, is Barcelona, and every other club would be preparing themselves for facing the Champions. Barcelona’s biggest rival is Real Madrid, who has invested a huge amount in order to compete with the Catalan giants.
Although Real Madrid has a big squad as compared to many other teams, their manager still thinks that they are not ready yet. Jose Mourinho, in a press conference, said that the club is still short of two players. Mourinho believes that Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain are the only two players who would be playing the role of strikers. Cristiano Ronaldo, on the other hand, would be given a free role, instead of a role as centre-forward. Therefore, the club is short of one striker. Mourinho would be looking for some young talents, as the new signing would have to sit on the bench, for the most part.
Apart from that, Mourinho believes that he is also short of a defender. In this regard, Mourinho is right on the money, as Madrid desperately needs a defender. However, in this case it would be better if an established defender arrives at Bernabeu. Real Madrid has a weak squad as far as their defending is concerned, which would lead them into trouble, especially against the attacking sides. Therefore, Mourinho needs to buy an established defender, as the final preparations for the season begin.
Jose Mourinho also talked about Cristiano Ronaldo during the interview. He seems impressed with the high enthusiasm of Ronaldo during the training sessions. Ronaldo was the main player for Madrid last season; however, Mourinho had a few words to say about that. He believed that such kinds of strategies would lower the confidence of the player, while reducing his tendency to improve his game. He believed that Ronaldo still has a room for improving his skills as a player.
Real Madrid has already signed Angel Di Maria, Sami Khedira and Pedro Leon this summer. However, the team is still incomplete, according to Mourinho. Actually, the real deficiency of Real Madrid was in their defence, and Mourinho has made no attempt to improve that particular sector. Also, the presence of one more striker would better their chances, as Raul has already left Bernabeu this summer.
Jose Mourinho is clearly working hard for the start of the season. Actually, he might be under some sort of pressure, as he has taken the reigns of Real Madrid at a critical time. The club has suffered two years of humiliation against Barcelona, while almost a decade has passed since their last success in Europe. Therefore, Mourinho wants to make sure that everything is in the right place before he can lead his team into the season.
From the remarks made by Mourinho, it is obvious that the manager would play his conventional diamond formation. There might be two strikers upfront, which is quite attacking by Mourinho’s standards, while Ronaldo will play upfront, with a little bit of extra freedom. This might prove to be the right decision, as a player like Ronaldo should not be confined in a particular position, like centre forward. He should be given a free role, as this would help him to do his natural game.
There are certain players under consideration by Mourinho, who could be possible targets. In the list of defenders, Mourinho would be looking at Vidic, from Manchester United, Ricardo Carvalho, from Chelsea, and Maicon, from Internazionale. For a striker, Mourinho would be looking at a young player, who would be a substitute player.
Now, the only responsibility lies with the owners of Madrid to provide necessary funds to the manager, despite the mediocre financial conditions. So far, the changes have been on the spot, while these final adjustments would get the team ready for a new season in La Liga.
