Real Madrid Manager Jose Mourinho has been banned for one Champions League match by UEFA for deliberately asking his players to incur red cards and get clean slates before the next round. Real Madrid players Xabi Alonso and Sergio
Ramos were booked in an encounter between Real Madrid and Ajax. Although Real Madrid thrashed Ajax by 4-0 last week at Amsterdam, but some of the players of the winning squad had been alleged for ‘Improper Conduct’. It was said and proved by game
footage that Mourinho passed his instructions from reserve keeper Jerzy Dudek to Iker Casillas and then from Casillas to Ramos and Alonso.
Both players kept the ball far longer than usual and were penalized for this. Both were shown two yellow cards so that they could miss the next not-so-important match against Auxerre next week and get into the next round with no
sword on their heads.
Jose Marios Dos Santos Felix Mourinho, perhaps the most well known Portuguese football manager, who also managed last year’s Champions Inter Milan was fined 40,000 Euros (approximately 52,000 USD) whereas Sergio Ramos and Xabi
Alonso were obliged to pay 20,000 Euros each (approximately 26,000 USD). The controversy has come to an end when Union of European Football Association (UEFA) declared the verdict which turned Real’s glory into an hour of shame. Midfielder Xabi Alonso and
full back Sergio Ramos are now suspended for one UEFA Champions League match. Both the keepers Iker Casillas and Jerzy Dudek are fined 10,000 Euros and 5,000 Euros respectively for carrying out the message from the stands and assisting in improper activity.
These tactics also incurred a fine of 120,000 Euros to Real Madrid and are given the right to lodge an appeal against the verdict within three days of the decision made by UEFA.
As part of the decision made by UEFA, the 47 year old Portuguese manager would not be available for the next two UEFA Champions League matches. One is the upcoming ‘Dead Rubber’ against Auxerre and the next one is deferred for
the time being. The deferred ban will be imposed if Mourinho is found responsible for improper conduct again within the probationary period of the next three years.
