Real Madrid Will Not Bid for Gerrard
Real Madrid will not make a bid for Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, according to the club's transfer consultant.
Ernesto Bronzetti says the club president, Florentino Perez, is not willing to match the price that Liverpool want for Gerrard meaning that the midfield player is now likely to see out the rest of his career at Liverpool.
This is not the first time that there has been speculation over the future of Gerrard at the North West based club. A few years ago he nearly signed a deal, which would have taken him to Chelsea only for him to pull out at the very last moment.
Gerrard will probably never have considered a move away from Liverpool as a strong or likely option. He can now focus on putting the ghosts of his England World Cup campaign to bed and doing well for his club in the new Premier League season.
Liverpool Positives
Roy Hodgson would have been sweating over the possible commitment of a number of key players. Gerrard would have been one of these players and the manager will know now that any possible Real Madrid approach is now off of the table.
Bronzetti said: "Kaka will stay at Real, but the president does not agree with Gerrard because he is 30 and Perez doesn't want to know. Plus, Liverpool asked for €70m [£58m]."
Liverpool have always played through Gerrard ever since he broke into the first team as a youngster. He has the ability and quality to win games and the majority of Liverpool's play is based around their captain. Therefore, it's extremely positive for Liverpool that they are not going to need to search for a new play maker and goal scoring midfield player.
The general buzz and atmosphere, which always surrounds Liverpool is going to stay the same. The fans would have been completely ripped apart over any possible Gerrard departure but they can now get right behind the teams as they always do.
The Future of Others
The future of others could now be helped by the fact that Gerrard is well and truly staying at the club. The likes of Fernando Torres would not have stuck around if Gerrard was not going to be at the club.
This is because any Gerrard departure would have been viewed as a very negative thing by other players in the side. Although Torres is still to commit himself to the club the point is that Liverpool now have a better chance of getting him to stay because Gerrard is staying on.
Hodgson cannot build a team to be successful in the immediate term if his best players leave because he will have to start from scratch. Gerrard staying means that Liverpool and Hodgson can build a team that is focused on getting their Champions League spot back by the end of the coming season.
Roy Hodgson is a very good manager and if he manages to get Liverpool's best players to follow Gerrard's example then the side will be a very good bet to get back Champions League football by the end of the year.
Obviously a lot depends on the intentions of other clubs but Liverpool are well worth a punt to do well next year. Remember that there is still some time in the current transfer window left and Liverpool are capable of beating any club when they bring out their best game.
Gerrard will score a lot of goals for the club next season and is always a candidate to score at any time in any match. This is a good side bet to any others that you lay in terms of match result or the score of a match.
