The Spanish international appeared jubilant after Barca’s victory over Zaragoza but conceded that Real Madrid are still the favourites to win La Liga.
The former Arsenal skipper admitted that the current Spanish champions had to give their best in order to ensure a victory over Zaragoza over the weekend, and was pleased with the three points earned.
The midfielder also made his comments regarding the Liga BBVA title race and admitted that Los Blancos are heavy favourites to be named champions, even though Barcelona have managed to reduce their advantage at the top of the league table to four points.
Pep Guardiola’s men travelled away from home to face Zaragoza at the Estadio de la Romareda on Saturday and many thought the Catalan giants will emerge victorious from the encounter.
Although it was the home team that went in the lead after the half-hour mark, Barca were able to pull a remarkable comeback as they levelled the proceedings six minutes after conceding the opener.

On the other hand, Jose Mourinho’s Madrid suffered a set-back as they had to settle for a draw against Valencia on Sunday.

As Madrid dropped two crucial points over the weekend, the title race for the Spanish crown seems all but open again.
However, Fabregas has insisted that his side’s rivals are still the team to beat and are more likely to win the Spanish La Liga.
While talking to reporters, the midfielder was quoted as saying:
"We weren’t expecting to be four points behind Real Madrid at this point in the competition, but there’s a lot of Liga still left to be played. They’re still favourites to win it,"
"It was a difficult match [against Zaragoza]. The conditions weren’t optimal, but the team played with a lot of character - we deserved the victory. We had a lot of chances that we weren’t able to capitalise on. It was a very hard-fought match. It’s
a shame to play on a pitch like this, on such a dry field where the ball is so painfully slow."
Barcelona’s next opponents in the Spanish Primera are Getafe and the two teams will lock horns on Wednesday.
