Real Madrid are the Spanish La Liga favourites
Real Madrid is undoubtedly the biggest club in the world of football. With 31 La Liga titles and 9 Champions league trophies, there are few clubs if any, which even come close to the Galacticos. Madridistas are fiercely proud of their heritage and the club.
The club, which feeds on attractive football, has been living in the shadow of their perennial rivals FC Barcelona for the last three seasons.
In 2008/09 season, FC Barcelona shattered all records as they won an unprecedented 6 titles including a historic treble of La Liga, UEFA Champions League and Copa del Rey. Catalans won the league with two games to spare.
Last season was no different as Barca won the league with record 99 points. Real Madrid fought admirably and finished close with 96 points but the Lionel Messi inspired Barcelona was too hot to handle for the entire of Spain. Madrid’s season was a complete
failure as they also lost to Olympique Lyon in the first knockout round of UEFA Champions League. Humiliated and embarrassed, Florentino Perez had to go back to the drawing board. Senor Perez knew just what he had to do – get Jose Mourinho to coach the club.
On 28 May 2010, Real Madrid announced the capture of the treble winning Portuguese tactician from Inter Milan. Perez shelled out top dollar just to get the former Chelsea manager on his pay cheque. Jose Mourinho immediately went about strengthening a squad
that had 250 million Euros invested just last year. Despite having the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka playing under him, Mourinho snapped up young sensations in Angel Di Maria, Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira.
"The special one" also recruited his former friend Ricardo Carvalho from Chelsea. Carvalho is an impeccable reader of the game and his intelligence has brought a sense of calm over the previously shaky Madrid defence.
Real Madrid made a modest start to the La Liga season with a draw and three victories. The results might have been coming, but the team chemistry was lacking. Madrid managed six goals in their opening four matches. However, ever since the scoreless draw
against Levante on match day five, Los Merengues have scored an incredible 16 goals in their next three matches.
As things stand, Real Madrid sits atop the La Liga rankings with the best offensive and defensive records. In eight matches, Galacticos have scored an incredible 22 goals while conceding a miserly 4. Jose Mourinho’s side has been equally impressive in UEFA
Champions League with a perfect record.
The club has won all its matches including the prized scalp of AC Milan. Although Real won by a 2 – 0 score line against Rossoneri, the dominance enjoyed by Mourinho was such that Madrid could have scored five or six past their opposition and it would have
been just. Ozil and Di Maria have hit the ground running at Bernabeau. Mesut Ozil in particular has been so impressive that one begins to wonder whether Ricardo Kaka has any role left to play at the club.
Jose Mourinho’s side is yet to face the likes of Valencia, Villarreal, and Athletico Madrid and not to forget the mouth watering El Clasico battle on 28th November. However, bar FC Barcelona, no other team is likely to give Los Merengues a run
for their money. Jose Mourinho’s side are looking truly unbeatable at the moment, add this to the fact that Brazilian playmaker Kaka is yet to feature this season following his knee surgery. The Galactic attacking force that Real Madrid will become with a
fully fit Kaka back in their ranks is simply beyond words.
While Barcelona is struggling to replicate the extraterrestrial form of the previous seasons, Real Madrid is emerging as the new super power of Spanish football. Jose Mourinho has just returned from a treble winning season and if early season form is anything
to go by, he is set to win everything yet again.
