Real Madrid batter Maccabi Electra 88-64 - Euroleague Recap
Thursday was a very good night for both Spanish powerhouses playing in Turkish Airlines Euroleague 2011.
First, FC Barcelona Regal routed Unics and few hours later, Real Madrid topped their group by collecting their sixth win of the tournament, humiliating Maccabi Electra 88-64.
Both Maccabi and Real entered the game with five wins under their belt, but now Real have improved to 6-3 while Maccabi have dropped to 5-3.
Maccabi fought the first half gallantly and managed to stay neck to neck with the Spaniards, however in the next two quarters, Real strengthened their defence and changed gears on the offense as well, scoring quick points to push
the game completely away from Maccabi.
Real were aggressive and accurate and shot 12 for 22 from the downtown and 16 for 19 from the free throw line.
Nikola Mirotic was superb and marshalled the winning team with game high 26 points on a near perfect shooting, knocking down 4 for 5 from downtown and 6 for 8 from the free throw line. Jaycee Carroll accumulated 17 points on 3
for 4 from the three-point range while Martynas Pocius added 12 for the winners.
Keith Langford paced Maccabi with 18 points on an accurate 6 for 6 from the free throw line. Lior Eliyahu drained 11 while Richard Hendrix chipped in with 10. No other player managed to produce a healthy tally.
Back to back three’s from Sergio Llull and Nicola got Real off to a 6-2 start. Next 2-3 minutes saw a good battle between both teams as the scores reached 10-8 In favour of Real, however after that Real changed gears and fuelled
a 12-7 burst that ended with the final buzzer, providing Real a 7 point 22-15 lead.
Midway through the second frame, Real, scoring quickly, boosted the lead to double figures 34-23, however Maccabi showed a good fight and reeled off a 15-5 run to get neck to neck with Real, trailing by just 1 point 39-38. Unfortunately
for Maccabi, real again bolted a 9-2 run in the ending minute to levitate the lead to 48-40.
That 9-2 run proved decisive in the end as Real again managed to take the lead to double digits 54-44, midway through the third frame and never looked back then. Lead only kept on increasing with time and reached 20 plus points
in the 3rd minute of deciding frame. Maccabi failed to bring it down until the very end and lost the game in the end with a huge margin.
