Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has said that midfielder Sami Khedira is likely to return to the playing eleven before the end of the current 2010-11 campaign.
Earlier, it was feared that Khedira would miss the rest of the season after the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 international suffered an injury in the Copa del Rey victory over bitter rivals Barcelona.
Mourinho maintains that the injury to Khedira is a major blow to the Los Blancos and the player is definitely out of Real Madrid’s next Spanish La Liga fixture against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863. However, the German is expected to be back for the Los Merengues as they face
important fixtures in the UEFA Champions League and La Liga.
The Portuguese said, “The injury to Khedira is important like any other. It's a limitation for the team and there are players who are hard to replace. It is what it is, bad news, but to say he will not return before the end of the season is absurd.”
“He will not play tomorrow or on Wednesday because there is no miracle in medicine, but we hope he is back soon,” added the manager.
It is reported that Khedira missed the training season ahead of the Valencia game and is going to be diagnosed with Real Madrid’s medical staff on Saturday while news regarding his injury will be posted later on the club’s official website.
Khedira has certainly been one of the most consistent performers for Madrid this season as he has 40 appearances to his name. Furthermore, the German has received a lot of praise for his tackling abilities in a holding midfield role.
Real’s victory over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final should give them the necessary belief that they can overcome the Catalan giants in the Champions League semi-final as well.
However, one must be an optimist to say that Real Madrid still have a chance to win the La Liga title as currently they trail Barcelona by 8 points with just five round of matches remaining in the season.
Khedira will be hoping he can recover from his injury soon and be involved in his side’s season run-in.
