Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has a £45m allowance for transfers: Is it enough?
Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has been given a £45m allowance to spend on players over the summer, a sum which falls short if his hoping on signing his key target players, who have been reported to consist of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole.
The Portuguese tactician will have to make do with a transfer budget which is £200m less than predecessor Manuel Pellegrini, and if he is not happy, then it will be down to him to offload the necessary talent at the Bernabeu to increase the funds available.
Mourinho may also use players as bargaining chips - Liverpool will most likely be offered Fernando Gago and Rafa Van der Vaart as part of any Gerrard deal.
Kaka is the likely choice to be used for a Frank Lampard deal if Chelsea accept.
Whether the deals go through or not, it’s looking likely that Gago and Van der Vaart, along with Lassana Diarra will possibly be shown the door.
The Spanish giants paid £6.7m to Inter Milan for Mourinho and owe another £6.7m.
They also had to give Pellegrini a £3.5m pay-off as well as servicing debts.
I think it’s fair to say considering his achievements and Charisma that he brings to the team, that Real Madrid have made a great investment by securing a deal with Mourinho, and I look forward to seeing what ‘The Special One’ can bring to Spanish football.
