Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho reckons El Clasico not decisive in La Liga championship
Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has played down the importance of the match between Real Madrid and Barcelona by saying that a defeat for Real would not be definitive in the title race.
Mourinho enjoys an excellent record as the Madrid manager, as it remains the only side yet to face a defeat in the 2010-11 La Liga (with 10 won and 2 drawn matches).
Mourinho was talking to the press conference on Sunday and stressed on the importance of the game. He said that each and every point is vital and at the end of the season these points will decide who wins the league. He also maintained
there are still 25 games to be played after Monday’s encounter and hence so many points still to be won, so there will be many factors that come into play.
He added that this game is not final so whether they win or lose, the following morning will still be Tuesday. He hopes that if his team loses the game, it won’t affect their confidence and self-esteem and they will keep their
heads up and stay focused, whatever the result.
The 47-year-old knows that the season is long and the team who performs better in 10 months will be crowned Champions. He is certain that Real will continue to do well during that time.
The Portuguese coach has been criticised for being too negative in his previous meetings with Barca but now has vowed to make it an enjoyable spectacle.
He said: "The world is waiting for this game and we have the responsibility to give the world the game that expect. These are two teams who could be the best, with top players, and everything is in place for it to be a great game.”
He urged his team to give respect to the referee and this game should be remembered for only good things and football should be the winner.
He added: "Many times in Clasicos and derbies it isn't the best team or the one ahead in the table who wins. These matches provide a different motivation - we can have ten points more or ten less, but in these games it's
very difficult to say who is better and who is favourite."
The Portuguese coach is a master tactician and he doesn’t want to put his team under pressure. Surely he would be delighted if his team manages to beat their bitter rivals at Camp Nou. Madrid fans will be looking for revenge from
Barca. Last season, they were humiliated from the Champions by a 6-2 drubbing. In that match, Lionel Messi scored twice and Madrid will be looking to stop him at all cost.
Madrid, on top of the La Liga with a one-point difference from Barcelona, has an excellent chance to extend their lead to 4 points. However, if Josep Guardiola’s men beat them, their unbeaten run in all competitions this season
will come to an end. But the Real boss has stressed that defeat will mean nothing in terms of who win the league.
