Real Madrid complete Ricardo Carvalho signing
Ricardo Carvalho has told of his delight at the prospect of once again working with Jose Mourinho after making the switch to Real Madrid. Carvalho tolds reporters that: "I've wanted to come here for a long time. Mourinho is a winning manager and I have come to a winning club."
The central defender has completed his move to the La Liga giants after passing a medical exam and signing a two-year deal. Madrid shelled out £6.7m to Chelsea to capture the services of the Portugal international, who Mourinho recently described as “one of the best central defenders in the world”.
Carvalho added that he felt he could quickly adjust to the slower, more skilful nature of La Liga, where he will face the likes of Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Luis Fabiano. He said that: "The speed of the game is different here to England, where the game is quicker. I think it was harder for me to adapt to English football than it will for me to adapt to the Spanish game because it is so similar to the Portuguese league."
Working with 'perfectionist'
In an interview with his new club’s official website, Carvalho said that he was relishing the chance to again work with Mourinho, with whom he won the UEFA Cup and UEFA Champions League at Porto and two English Premier League titles with Chelsea. He said that: “Mourinho is very detail oriented and a perfectionist. He doesn’t take player mistakes well, but we do make them because we are human. He is very demanding and he pays attention to every detail in order to win. We have won a lot of trophies together and I hope to do the same here.”
Carvalho won three league titles in his time at Chelsea, and also enjoyed three FA Cup successes, two League Cup wins and a pair of Community Shield triumphs. He also helped Chelsea to the Champions League final in the 2007-08 season. He has become Mourinho’s fifth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Angel di Maria, Pedro Leon, Sergio Canales and Sami Khedira.
